Spring is here and so is the sunshine

If spring were a person, she is a complete drama queen. Especially the springs in Switzerland. There’s a saying in Switzerland (however, I’ve heard my friends in Italy and France say the same thing so I guess it is a common saying throughout the old country) to not put away your coats until May. And indeed, it is true. There have been a sprinkle of days in March and April where it has been over 20C but then has dipped back down to the 10C after a few days. May is here, and for the past 2 days it’s been summer weather, over 25C, but today it is cloudy and 10 degrees lower. Goodness.

The good thing about it is that there’s been more sunshine which is much needed in Geneva. Geneva in winters is terrible. I don’t wish upon anyone to stay in the city from November to April. This is why many locals (and many Swiss in general) go up to the mountains. Yes of course the Swiss need their ration of ski and cheese fondue, but the mountain also brings sun, which a necessity for sanity in Switzerland.

My friend Sam has suggested to do a “light walk” in Lavaux (I say “light” because as the region is very hilly). Lavaux is a UNESCO sight where there are gorgeous vineyards. They are terraced vineyards so the grapes are grown on the steep hills. They are also along Lake Leman so the view is spectacular.

We decided beforehand we will not eat in the villages (there are not many restaurants to start with). So I packed some fresh cut apples and strawberries, cookies, and mixed nuts to share. I packed a hearty breakfast. I was craving Dang Bing which is a Taiwanese green onion omelette that’s wrapped in a crepe/flatbread. Since i didn’t have the bread I wrapped them in corn tortilla that I brought back from California. I intended to use the tortillas when I have a urgent taco craving one in a while (an emergency for any Californian living overseas) but it actually works really well with the egg omelette.
